Greyhound racing took place at the Tyne and Wear town of Ashington at Portman Park with grid reference 1° 34' W 55° 11' N early on in the history of the sport. It was an independent flapping track which first hosted racing on 3rd October 1936, sharing its ground with the local Ashington Football Club, but ceased trading in 1964. However, it reopened on 16th August 1984, operating for almost a decade before closing in the 1996. |

The track had a circumference of approximately 350 metres and held sprint races over 252 metres, standard races over 443 metres and distance races over 610 metres. |
